In the third episode of the We Are Embedded video series, Gabor Vida interviews Andrew Penny, President of the Networked Vehicle Association. Formed in 2007, the NVA was established to facilitate communication between the automotive industry and the digital community. The NVA is a forum to discuss common needs and interests of both sectors and bridges these two solitudes.

Fusing the experience that people have with their devices with the experience they have with/in their car is a topic that predominantly comes up at these forums. As this episode illustrates, having an iPhone-like screen in a car is a natural fit, but it’s not that easy.

The NVA is aware that people today no longer define themselves by their car. Alternatively, they define themselves by their Apps. The automotive industry has evolved and marketing cars today is not about the car itself, but rather the cars specs and details. It stimulates these and other conversations and how both sectors and App developers need to work together in order to connect the world inside a car with the world outside of it.
